The Australian Maritime College (AMC) and SubSea Craft (SSC) have announced the establishment of a new Research, Development, Innovation and Testing Facility at AMC’s Beauty Point campus in Northern Tasmania.
The new facility will enable SubSea Craft to accelerate the development and validation of its next-generation maritime products and systems in collaboration with AMC’s world-class research and testing infrastructure.
Spanning approximately 250 square metres with direct waterfront access, the site will feature technical workshops, offices and collaborative spaces designed to support applied research, trials and product evaluation.
“The partnership with SubSea Craft represents another significant step forward in AMC’s vision to create a national Defence, Maritime, Innovation and Design Precinct,” said Mal Wise, Principal of the Australian Maritime College.
“It brings industry and academia together in a way that gives our students and staff exposure to the technologies defining the future of maritime operations.”
CEO of SubSea Craft, Camilla Martin said, “This facility provides the ideal environment for our team to develop, test and refine emerging technologies that enhance operational capability in the most demanding environments.”
She continued, “In order to meet the priorities of collaborative partnerships such as AUKUS, it is critical that facilities like this exist, where multi domain, innovative companies and research-focused organisations can work together to deliver technologies at pace.”
The partnership builds on AMC’s reputation as Australia’s leading maritime research and education institution and highlights Tasmania’s growing role in the nation’s defence innovation ecosystem.
Operations at the new facility are expected to commence in early 2026.
