Senior Mechatronics Engineer

Responsibilities will include:

  • Working within a highly skilled team, develop solutions to meet emerging customer requirements to satisfy urgent operational needs.
  • Develop various mechatronic payload systems for deploying assets covering ISTAR, Effector Integration and Surveillance into Subsea Craft’s VICTA platform. Including the broad range of engineering system design
  • Provide a critical link in the integration of mechanical, electrical and software components across a product.
  • Work within the team to develop concept designs which may include small USV’s, ASV’s and UUV’s including mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and control system integration.
  • Working with the build and R&D teams, progress concept designs to a working prototype within short timescales
  • Working with the existing design team to ensure commonality of sensor and control approaches including PLC programming and hardware selection.
  • Knowledge of the systems engineering lifecycle and an ability to apply good systems engineering practices to your work.
  • Able to implement the detailed design solutions using CAD and PLM to ensure all details of design and installation.
  • Develop and implement control algorithms and software to regulate the behaviour of mechatronic systems, enabling precise and efficient operation.
  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues in mechatronic systems and provide ongoing maintenance and support to ensure proper functionality.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in mechatronics and related fields and apply innovative solutions to enhance product performance and capabilities.
  • Create comprehensive documentation and justification for design decisions, ensuring clarity, transparency, and alignment with project objectives and processes.

Qualifications and Experience:

 

Essential

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, or a related field with a minimum of 5 years experience, preferably within the maritime field but not essential.
  • Experience in the design and development of mechatronic systems.
  • Process instrumentation and sensor selection based on system requirements.
  • Solid working knowledge of modern control theory and its application in mechatronic systems.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality results.

 

Working Conditions:

The role will primarily be based in the SubSea Craft office in Portsmouth, UK, with occasional travel to the Portland facility in Dorset during trials. The position may involve work in a manufacturing environment and at sea during trials, which may present physical challenges and require adherence to safety protocols. Note that due to the nature of work undertaken at SubSea Craft, the selected candidate must be capable of meeting the security requirements of

the position, which would include as a minimum the Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), with Security Check likely for specific projects.
